At CHOC, we’re grateful to partner with corporations that understand the importance of giving back to the community and making a difference in the lives of children.
Children today are facing mental illness more profoundly and at an earlier age, leading us to experience an unparalleled mental health crisis. In response, CHOC has widened the scope of its pediatric health care to provide treatments for wounds that may otherwise go unseen. With philanthropic contributions, CHOC’s mental health initiatives can reach young and vulnerable patients who need it most.
In these spotlights on CHOC corporate partners, learn more about how their generosity has left an impact on the lives of our mental health patients and their families.
McCarthy Building Companies, Inc.
Through their $2.5 million pledge toward mental health, McCarthy Building Companies’ generosity has been a driving force in expanding our mental health services and giving children, adolescents, teens and young adults personalized care.
At CHOC, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in Emergency Department (ED) visits for patients in a state of mental health crisis. In 2022, CHOC treated more than 2,700 patients in psychiatric crisis, an increase of 30% from the previous year. This all mirrors data that show a rapid growth in pediatric mental health cases nationally. Philanthropic support like McCarthy’s helps CHOC meet the increased number of pediatric mental health cases and rise to the challenge of growing demands. In 2022, CHOC was able to admit 78% of our ED patients who needed full evaluations within one hour. Through McCarthy’s generosity, CHOC can ensure that no child’s mental health needs are overlooked or untreated.
McCarthy continues to expand their longstanding partnership with CHOC. Their next endeavor is CHOCstruction, a week-long initiative from February 26 to March 1, 2024 uniting the architectural, engineering, construction industries and trades to fundraise and support the health and well-being of kids in our community.
Disney
In celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary, our dear friends at Disneyland® Resort and The Walt Disney Company donated Disney’s Mobile Movie Theater unit to the Cherese Mari Laulhere Mental Health Inpatient Center at CHOC. Included with the theater is free access to both the Disney+ streaming platform and the Disney Movie Moments Program, which features newly released Disney movies that are still in theaters.
Disney’s Mobile Movie Theater unit is providing smiles, comfort and laughter to our mental health patients and increasing positive coping throughout their hospitalization. Through Disney’s generosity, the magic of childhood is kept alive for our patients and their families.
Main Electric Supply
Main Electric Supply’s passion and dedication to mental wellness and creating healthy communities can be seen through its annual golf tournament, where all proceeds benefit CHOC’s mental health programs. In 2022, over $25,000 was raised. And most recently, in 2023, the tournament raised over $45,000. This is all in addition to Main Electric’s $75,000 pledge.
Through Main Electric’s kindness, CHOC is meeting the mental health needs of children and their families, and offering valuable services like pet, music, and art therapy which are all solely supported through philanthropy. Most importantly, Main Electric’s partnership reminds patients that they’re never alone.
G&M Oil Company
G&M Oil Company is actively engaged in the CHOC’s mission to nurture, advance and protect the health and well-being of children. Their largest gift to CHOC—$25,000—continues to build new paths toward mental health and wholeness.
With their help, a strong continuum of mental health support for children and families extends into our communities—beyond the walls of CHOC. Thanks to generous donors like G&M Oil, CHOC is able to accomplish initiatives like launching a four-session coping group for teens with chronic illness, depression and anxiety, and partnering with local schools to provide trauma-informed training to over 11,000 participants in 2022.
CHOC’s commitment to taking a leadership role in meeting the need for more mental health services in Orange County has found a powerful ally: corporate partners. Their passion for the well-being of children and generosity are essential parts of the solution to get ahead of the pediatric mental health crisis. Together we are ensuring that we can help children write a story that is not defined by mental or physical illness, but by hope and togetherness.
Your company and CHOC’s trusted pediatric care can create a lasting impact on the kids and community we serve.
