The CHOC Foundation Board is a group of leaders and advocates who are actively invested in generating community awareness and philanthropic support for the health and well-being of children. Among these dedicated leaders are Dr. Jason Knight, MD, medical director of the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at CHOC, and Dr. Christine Bixby, MD, CHOC neonatologist.
Dr. Knight earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virgina, before completing his pediatric internship and residency training, with an additional year as the pediatric chief resident. He completed his fellowship training in pediatric critical care medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and CHOC. Dr. Knight is board certified in pediatric critical care, and in 2005, he joined the medical staff of CHOC Orange, CHOC Mission and University of California, Irvine, where he is an associate clinical professor. For the past 19 years, Dr. Knight has served in numerous leadership positions, including his current role as medical director of the PICU—a position he has held since 2017.

Dr. Bixby is board certified in pediatrics, neonatology and lactation consulting. She earned her medical degree from the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, and completed her general pediatrics internship and residency training and her neonatal-perinatal fellowship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California. She has been a staff neonatologist at CHOC for 17 years. In her role as lactation medical director at CHOC, she focuses on breastmilk handling and breastfeeding support in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
Dr. Knight and Dr. Bixby wear two very important hats. As both CHOC physicians and Foundation board members, they bring a unique perspective that bridges medicine and mission, ensuring that every child has access to world-class care, treatments and support.

“I feel that my job as a CHOC Foundation board member is to connect fellow board members to the work we are doing for both inpatient and outpatient at CHOC. The Foundation board members are volunteers, and it is important for them to know that the valuable time they commit to CHOC is for a great cause and time well spent,” Dr. Knight says. “I have dedicated my calling as a physician to CHOC, and it’s important for the Foundation board members to see that we live the vision and mission of CHOC every day.”
