Dear Friends and Supporters:
Out of an abundance of caution and with full transparency, we want to inform you about a recent data security incident involving Blackbaud, the world’s leading provider of administrative, fundraising, and financial management software for nonprofit organizations. Hundreds of organizations around the world, including the CHOC Foundation, use services provided by Blackbaud to support their fundraising efforts.
Blackbaud recently notified us that the CHOC Foundation was among a group of about 200 clients whose data may have been involved in a security breach of Blackbaud’s data center. We want to assure you that no information regarding credit cards, bank accounts, or Social Security numbers were accessed or compromised in this incident. The data that was accessed at Blackbaud may have included contact information, demographic data, and gifts made to the CHOC Foundation.
We take the protection and proper use of your information very seriously, and we are contacting you only as a precautionary measure. After discovering and fixing this breach, Blackbaud worked with security experts and law enforcement. They received confirmation that the stolen data was destroyed and not used by the perpetrators. Based on the nature of the incident, the research Blackbaud performed, and analysis by third-party investigators, Blackbaud has no reason to believe that the data was publicly transmitted or disseminated. Blackbaud has also hired a team of experts to continue monitoring for any such activity. You can learn more about Blackbaud’s response with its summary of the security incident.
At present, we are not aware of any instances of fraudulent activity related to this breach. We also do not believe it is necessary for you to take any further action at this time other than to remain vigilant as you normally would be for any suspicious or unsolicited emails.
We are committed to holding Blackbaud accountable and keeping your personal information safe and secure. If you have any questions or concerns about this breach, please do not hesitate to contact our Data Services at email@example.com.
We apologize sincerely for any inconvenience this incident may have caused, and we remain grateful for your friendship, support, and trust.
